It's fun! I hold no animosity toward anyone because of their political affiliations. I'm a liberal but if anyone's a conservative then that's their choice.

No, it doesnt. Most of it is done by ignorant people who can't see more than one side of an issue and are told by thier side to hate the opposition. Others do it just to piss off thier opposition.
Personally, I want some good, decent debate. But its impossible to find because everyone seems so focused on bashing the other side, that you cant reach any kind of resolution.

But you consider bringing up George W Bush's failures to our country as bashing.

it helps - politicians get into office by running smear campaigns and concentrating on the negatives of the opponant rather than the positives of themselves.
it helps - pundents and talking heads to leech off of others to further their carreers.
it hurts - the american people
it hurts - voter turnout
it hurts - democracy
