My dog is simply wonderful! She is amazing to watch outside as she is fast and herds anything she can find. She is also highly intelligent and has an amazing sense of smell. Unfortunately, she has killed 2 rabbits, 2 squirrels and 1 rat in the past 2 days. I understand the breed and their need for activity and stimulation. What can I do to keep her busy while I am gone? I leave treats and chew toys, but it doesn't last all day. I am not able to come home during the day to play with her over lunch. What would be a good companion? If given nothing to "work on", she climbs over the fence and runs off or destroys anything she can find. I play with her when I get home, but I worry about her all day. So, companion? Toy that would serve as an enrichment activity? HELP ME and Bentley! :) (I'd buy a few cows if I could!)

Ever try the "Everlasting Treat Ball" ? I have a pit bull mix and they way the treat is put in the chew toy it takes him HOURS to chew on it. It really is way better than the other chew toys. Here's a link to look at it:

They have it a Petsmart cheaper, though, I think.

Maybe you could get a neighborhood kid to walk her or come play with her. School's out and there are lots of teenagers looking for jobs and this would be a fun job!

Good luck!

You're right to be worrying about her - very easy to get hit by a car or injured some other way. If your fence isn't high enough to keep her in, I'm not at all sure that having a companion would help. It would definitely entertain her as I've never known a dog that would play much by itself, but that wouldn't be a guarantee that she wouldn't take off when she saw something interesting on the other side of the fence.

If you can't put her behind a higher fence, your only really safe option (and this would be a shame) would be to leave her in a covered dog run. It might only be a temporary measure, at 6 months she's got a ton of maturing to do, but at least you wouldn't have to worry about what you'll find when you get home.

Get her a herd of sheep they can keep a dog busy and useful.
If not maybe you can find a child about 11 years old that would love to earn some money this summer have them come 15 minutes twice a day to throw the ball or race with them or they can bring their own active dog to race with yours.

what about a pet sitter that could come by at lunch time and entertain her for a while it might calm her down a bit and then when you get home take her for a walk to calm her down as well . You might have to get her a companion dog for a playmate . good luck .

I would say to look into a companion. It wouldnt have to be a herding dog, but just someone to keep her busy. Check with your local shelters, maybe Bentley can pick someone!

some of the cat toys.(peek-a - mouse etc.,) would work,KONG balls, take her to a pet daycare center even.maybe you should get her a friend? i would get a puppy pen for inside and put it in the laundry room to avoid the demise of your furniture.use a radio or tv to avoid lonliness, which would also lead to destructive activities. a dog walker to come by and walk him would also be an awesome move.Goog Luck!

find a pet sitter, or a teen child that needs extra income.
