The place that I work at is doing this and its not fair. Especially since I'm a single mom and I can only have my son in daycare for so many hours a day.

Yes they can if it's mandatory overtime. Talk with the manager and explain the problem with the daycare issue maybe he will work with you. See if you can work maybe 3 days overtime instead of say 5 days.

It depends upon the state laws ... vary from state to state. In some states, companies can require overtime. Check your employee handbook.

no, they can't make you. by that, i mean they can't hold you against your will and force you to work.

however, if you don't, you run the risk of being fired.
