You start out with : 3x - 6 = 4x + 24

Now, minus 3x from both sides, and you will get this:
-6 = x + 24

Finally, minus 24 from both sides, and you will get this:
x = -30

first you want to collect like terms so variables (x) together and numbers together:

3x - 6 = 4x + 24
3x - 4x = +6 + 24

then you simplify each side

3x - 4x = +6 + 24
- x = 30

you always have to have a positive variable so multiply both sides by -1 to get rid of the negative.

(-1) -x = 30 (-1)
x = -30

so your answer is x = -30

hope that helped :)

3x - 6 = 4x + 24

3x - 6 - 3x = 4x + 24 - 3x

- 6 = x + 24

- 6 - 24 = x + 24 - 24

- 30 = x

first you need to get the all the x's on one side
since i like dealing with a positive x instead of negitive, to move the 3x to the other side you would subtract 3x from each side so

3x-6-3x=4x+24-3x

simplified

-6=x+24

to get x by itself, you need to get rid of the 24, so subtract it so

-6-24=x+24-24

or

-30=x

3x - 6 = 4x + 24

subtract 3x for both sides
-6 = x + 24

subtract 24 for both sides
x = -30

Group like terms together. In other words, put the numbers wtih x's together on one side of the equal sign and vis versa.
When a number crosses the equal sign the + changes to - and vis versa.

3x-4x=6+24
x=30

Gather like terms on the same side, changing sign:
3x - 4x = 24 + 6
Group like terms to solve:
-x = 3 or x = -30
Substitute for x in equation:
-90 - 6 = -120 + 24
-96 = -96
Proof left = right

3x - 6 = 4x + 24
3x-3x-6 -24 = 4X-3X+24-24
-30 = X

3x-6 = 4x+24
-3x -3x

-6=x+24
-24 -24

x=-30

just combine like terms and whatever you do to one side, you have to do it to the other.
