I would just operate as if I were pregnant, and make an appointment with the doctor for a blood pregnancy test, which will detect lower levels of hormones than a urine test. I agree that the concentration of pregnancy hormones in morning urine is greater and is probably why you got a positive result with the morning test.

if your very early in pregnancy your hoemone levels (HCG) will be still fairly low. As your morning urine is more concentated then more hormone will be present in your morning urine and there for enough to be picked up by a HPT. Your afternoon urine will be diluted by whatever youve had to drink and the water in your food and therefore wont contain as much hormone, therefore resulting in a negative result.
also the HPT may just have been faulty
or
if you didnt use the same type of HPT the first one may detect lower levels of the hormones

Your hormone levels are higher in the morning. False positives are unusual, however they can happen. Wait a few days to a week and take the test mid-day. If you get a positive, then you know for sure it's true!

Pregnancy hormones are more concentrated in the first morning's urine than later in the day. I would wait another few days and take another test. The hormone levels increase very quickly.

You probably conceived recently. There is not enough growth hormones in your urine to register in the afternoon, but when you don't pee all night and then take the test in the morning, enough of the hormone accumulated so that it could be measured.

Congratulations, you are without doubt pregnant!

False negatives are more common than false positives. You may only be a little way along and it is not detectable in the afternoon but is in the morning.

Probably not enough of the HCG hormone in the afternoon one. If you got a positive test, you are pg. There is no such thing as a false positive. The hormone is either there or it isn't . Congratulations!

it is more likely to have a false negative than a false positive. how many days late are you? sometimes that matters too. if its just recent you may not have a lot of the hormone in your system for it to register later.

that's where that percentage of error comes in.

Tests detect pregnancy in different ways.
Even if you used two of the same test.
False negatives as well as false positives are possible
