I work in IT for a living and grew up on computers and gaming.

I am looking for a related hobby (please note I am quite knowledgeable in the field) that can keep me occupied when I get home from work.

Any suggestions?

You could look at non-MMORPG games (real time strategy, online versions of board games, first person shooter, etc...), blogging, wikipedia updates, forum browsing, etc... If you have any other hobbies that use open source software, why not take up contributing to an open source project? You could also setup a website for your family so that you can post/share photos more easily. Lots of options out there.

If you are looking for non-IT related hobbies, check out some of the youth programs in the area and volunteer with them. Most will allow non-parent volunteers if qualified. The football program my son was involved with (he's now in high school) has a number of coaches that don't have kids or have kids that have moved out of the program.

Amateur radio is a terrific hobby. It includes all facets of challenge, education, socially fun, helpful to the community and to people in need, adds much to most other hobbies, and it can satisfy you no matter what spending amount you have decided to work in.
