Lisa Kleypas is really great - I've read everything she has put out. I also like
Hannah Howell (very Scottish)
Johanna Lindsey
Phillipa Gregory (more historical than romantic in some ways)
Amanda Quick is a fun writer
Julia Quinn - really good
Elizabeth Lowell is good too

I've really only read Lisa Kleypas' historical novels, which I love. Especially her Wallflower series. I'm afraid to try any others as I think they would suffer by comparison.

I love Jane Austen. "Sense and Sensibility" and "Pride and Prejudice" are her best I think. Also, Charlotte Bronte's "Jane Eyre" is excellent. If I had to choose from those three though, I would pick "Sense and Sensibility." As for the movies that were made of them, they're not bad.
