It's for my wife and it's at a friends house. I need a theme or something. We already have fireworks, t-shirts, booze, and other stuff I can't mention here in front of the minors.

I went to a 30th birthday party two years ago that was really cool. All the guests were asked to invite 1 or 2 people that the birthday boy didn't know. When they got to the party all of the strangers popped up and and said surprise! When he was genuinely uncomfortable by being suprised by a room full of strangers his friends piled in and said suprise. It was really funny and fun.

What about the decade you were born theme....decorate the party from the decade your wife was born and ask the guests to dress from the decade they were born in.

WHy don't you do something like the years she grew up. Pick an era and just go with it. It will be fun. Have everyone dress in that era and have that kind of music going on.

If its for thirty year olds, you all were probably teenagers in the 80s. If so, have an 80s themed party
