What a very open-ended question. You've posted this in Philosophy so I don't expect you are asking for a list of the probable scientific achievements.

I see a number of major developments which will affect our lives.

First, energy. The supply of oil is effectively finite but we are currently increasing our reliance on it. I see political problems regarding the demand and supply of this commodity. I think how we approach this problem will define how our local communities will develop during this century.

Second, water. If the population keeps on increasing then drinking water will become a scarce resource. I doubt this will have a major impact on the UK although we may introduce some form of population control, probably by restricting immigration.

Third, food. I see a move back to providing food locally. This will not be a retrograde step but a natural development of the increase in fuel prices.

Politically, we will still take turns at beating the hell out of each other. I would like to see us grow up globally but I fear a century is much too short a period for any significant change to manifest.

Looking back over the last 100 years the UK has moved from manufacturing expertise to a service provider. The last twenty years or so has seen the rise in importance of information. What is the next logical development? We are currently moving into the age of search technology. This will develop from the simple location of data to a whole new concept in organisation of this data. We will abandon our linear records (usually chronological) to a multi-dimensional storage concept.

I would like to see the development of technology and the internet restructuring our society into smaller units. We need more "villages" though I am not convinced this will come about.

Religion remains a big unknown. The "New Age" movement should, in theory, bring people back to the basic concepts of working together. But I fear that most want an instant solution and will therefore be attracted to a plethora of new cults, each promising instant gratification of various worldly desires. The main "established" religions will continue their decline sedately.

Gosh, I've rambled on a bit. Basically I see little hope for a sea change in human nature. The multitudes will still look for instant solutions to their problems and follow the few. Let's hope the ones they follow are of the right calibre.

It is a question that is unanswerable. No one can predict if we still have the next 100 years for the next generations. It all depends on the present with wars escalating in almost every part of the world - small or big- scale wars. Not to forget the kind of armaments that are in stock and ready for use which no one can escape from.

With US and UK jobs going to Mexico, China and India, the world economy shifts into an overall much lower quality of life for everyone except the already super-rich.

And temperatures end up being about the same as they are because global warming is discovered to be a natural phase.

Birmingham city win the FA cup, and the championship. Britain will be another state of the USA, Royal family will be gone. Political correctness will go barmy, black and white words will be erased from the Dictionary, Cars will be electric, Cliff Richard will be still singing, Boxing will be banned, but in its place, a tournament of 2 people throwing corn flakes at each other, Prison sentence will be a verbal warning, Cant wait??

...hmm.i really don't think it will be the world that we are in right now...with temperatures that reach almost 40 degrees celsius...i don't think it will be better. i saw on tv that researchers said that in 50 years the temperatures will reach 48 degrees in almost all the countries in the world if nothing is done in stopping pollution..but i think they lie.i think this will happen sooner and that nothing can be done anymore...it's too late
