Call your pediatrician just to be safe (this would've been my first move), but I don't think her taking 4 capsules will lead to her menstruating early. A legitimate concern you might want to consider is why an 8 year old would attempt to ingest adult pharmaceuticals. ALL medication should not be in reach of children.
Personally, I don't see how taking 4 capsules of something can be accidental on your daughter's part, other than they may have accidentally been left out by yourself or your wife. I'm also concerned as to why there's seemingly not been communication with your daughter about taking medication on her own. Children should not take any medication not administered by an adult, and an 8 year old should be aware of this.
Many children die each year from taking adult medicines that have been left out. Please be more careful and talk with your daughter about why she shouldn't take adult medicine!
When children take medicine without supervision of an adult, in my opinion it's more negligence on the part of the parents than accidental. I have two small children of my own and have been the locking up the meds route after we had a chewable vitamin mishap. Things do happen, but if parents are conscientious it diminishes the risk of harm greatly.
Good luck!

Its a little late to start to worry no isn't it? I mean you could have had your daughter vomit up the pills if you took action fast enough.
And you might consider having your wife talk with her ob/gyn about birth control pills and how they work. I'm guessing your wife somehow thinks that her period is a result of the pill when in fact she is not having a period while taking the pill. The only bleeding she is having is caused from her body going through a withdrawal from the hormones in the pill.
In the future when and if your child gets into your medicine call the poison control, while birth control pill either taken by your daughter or son aren't likely to cause any problems, some medicines will kill children very quickly. You simply got lucky that she got a hold of birth control pills and not pills to control high blood pressure, or sleeping pills.

She took the meds a couple of DAYS ago? And you haven't called her doctor, or poison control yet? hmmm, don't know about your reasoning for that, but if you haven't seen anything wrong with her, then I'm assuming that there are no side effects, but you really should call and tell the doctor anyways. And be prepared, if they are a good doctor, then I'm sure they will want to know WHY you waited so damn long.

You shouldn't have children, you should be calling poison control and getting her medical attention instead of being on the computer. I highly doubt it will cause her to start menstrating, but it's probably not the best thing for her to ingest... By the way check your cabinets and make sure all the cleaning supplies are put away. Who know's what she'll get into next....

She might be nauseated but since it's been a few days she's probably fine. The 4 pills won't cause anything to happen earlier than it would have. It would have to be a continuous dose.

While any medication taken in excess can cause overdose, the risk associated with oral contraceptives is minimal. Even young children who have taken large amounts of oral contraceptives have not experienced serious adverse effects.
Symptoms of overdose may include:
Drowsiness, fatigue, nausea, vomiting
At least you know she won't get pregnant! (j/k)

A couple of days? don't you think you should have contacted a doctor on the first day and asked what the risks were and what you should do if anything;a couple of days latter you ask the question on yahoo?I think you should have handled it a little differently.

Shame on you for leaving medication where you child could get to it! Gee, wait and see if she gets sick instead of calling a Doctor!
