If you want to design golf courses you can either look at Landscape Architecture or Engineering.

I'm majoring in Landscape Architecture at UConn. We learn about different aspects of LA, but once you graduate you could choose to focus on golf courses. I think most LAs probably prefer a wider range of design challenges though.

I work in a small firm that does residential and commercial jobs. We do a lot of things, from surveying sites to designing to doing construction documents.

To be a good LA, you should be ready to learn to draft and draw, as well as learn a lot of computer programs, like AutoCAD and photoshop.

Good luck!

Landscape architects work in a variety of areas. They can even be in government be it city, state or even federal such as the Forest Service. A lot of the grads went with engineering firms who do a variety of subjects. I was more interested in ......actually-- originally golf course design....so started adding quite a bit of turf grass management to the LA classes (much to my LA advisor's dismay). Just about the time I was ready to go on to a Masters, family needs dictated moving and I to fall back on just the design and horticulture degrees. No time to intern, etc.
I'd say go ahead with the L.A. degree but also get in with turf grass management with an emphasis on golf courses and sports arenas. You'll probably start off with one of the golf course design firms across the country.

I went to Colorado State U which has both the LA and Turfgrass courses. I can't speak for the other schools now since I'm retired .......so my knowledge is dated.
