I remember as a kid, going to the Sunday double header at Yankee or Shea Stadium. These were not makeup games, but were scheduled as double headers. We planted ourselves in the hot sun and proceeded to watch 2 baseball games with a 30 minute break between games. In those days, the players were not coddled overpaid spoiled prima donnas. They were told to play 2 games and they did. No bottled water, no Gatoraide, etc. They had a water fountain in the dugout and that was it. The first game started at 1:05PM and the second game endend sometime around 8:30PM.
All this for one single admission that was a hell of a lot cheaper (even counting inflation) than today.
I used to love those double headers. Does anyone else out there remember them?

They stopped doing that at least 25 years ago, the main reason is the end of your earlier statement, they can getmore money by charging you twice. The other thing was that players griped about how hard it was so they put in the collective bargaining that scheduled double headers take prior approval of the two clubs. It is a shame because that would be great now a days!

Around ten years ago; during the Seligula regime.

Why? Money. Why give away two live performances for the price of one? Doubleheaders are nearly extinct, other than for rainout makeups, and even then it's usually a day/night, clear the park, make 'em pay for both setup.

There was a three-team doubleheader about 5-10 years ago; I think the home team was Cleveland and one of the visitors was Minnesota. I don't recall the exact details, but it was something like, one team was finishing its visit, the other team was stopping to play a makeup, and the next day was scheduled for a different visitor... anyway, that was pretty rare.

The Mets and Yankees have played a home-and-home doubleheader at least once, maybe twice.

Were I commissioner, every team would have to host one Sunday doubleheader between Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends.

What gets me is they say the season is way to long..but they dont want to play doubleheaders..if they bring back the good old days the season would be about 10 days shorter....yes they should have 2 doubleheaders each month on Sundays. But then they would be crying because the would loose revenue

I remember also there used to be twi-night double headers.

The first game would start around 5:30 and the last game would end arounf 11ish. That was sweet.
