my laptop died of a short circuit in the motherboard. so i remove everything that was useful.i was wondering if i can place the cpu of the laptop in my home desktop? the laptop was a hp pavilion 2.4ghz,Pentium 4 .and my desktop is a emachines,1.3ghz, intel celeron. can i do that?

No, laptop CPUs use a completely different socket type. It will not fit in a desktop PC.

Most probably not. Laptop CPUs are made to use less power than desktop ones. The socket itself may not match.

Laptop CPU's use totally different socket types, Your best bet is to buy new from a online site.

Nope, laptop parts made for laptop, sell your old cpu and try to but a desktop version

nope...you can't do it by yourself, either ask A+ certified technician or buy a new laptop..second option would be more advisable.
