Well as a long time reader of similar authors, I can heartily recommend Robert Rankin, starting at the beginning with "The Antipope", and working your way through. His books split between the Brentford books (stories set in the London borough of Brentford), and his less populated Armageddon trilogy, which gave us Barry the time Sprout. He's completely nuts, but right up your alley if you like Pratchett and Adams. If you feel like something a bit more subdued, you can try Tom Holt. His books are a bit formulaic with a strong but troubled female lead or a gormless male weed of a lead who needs a strong female sidekick to help him confront various historically based mythical bad guys. The humour is a bit drier and more subtle, but not too far away from Adams in some lights.

I highly recommend the "Left Behind" series.

I started the series because I'd heard so much about it from many different people. The books use fictitious characters to explain the events of Revelation from the Bible in layman's terms. I've tried reading and understanding Revelations, but I didn't understand all the symbolism. I read the first book and it was riveting. One friend started reading before me, but had to quit because it scared her too much. I could hardly put it down. It was so moving that within three minutes of finishing the first book I felt ill. Two minutes after that I was vomiting. This wasn't from grossness from any part of the story, I just felt very odd. (However, there's plenty of suspense & gore). I'm not worried about me, I know where I'm going; I think it was the realization of what's to come. I'm on the second book in the series, and once again the authors really explain Biblical prophecies in a way that's interesting and easy to comprehend. I hope you give book one a try.

Here's a quote of a summary of the book.
"Terror and chaos continues worldwide as the cataclysm unfolds. For those left behind, the apocalypse has just begun... In this moving novel, Jerry B. Jenkins and Tim LaHaye offer an account of what life might be like for those left behind when millions vanish. Left Behind will intrigue you, entertain you, and challenge you. And when you realize it represents an event that millions believe will actually occur, it could change your life."

I very much, very strongly recommend, specially if you enjoy King, that you read Clive Barker's Weaveworld and Imajica.

Then you might try reading his older works, such as Books of Blood.

I listened to Galilee on tape, but was not too much taken with it.

Also, Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere and Gods of America are very good. Neverwhere was originally written as a BBC telly series. You can get the filmed episodes on DVD. I think there are two separate DVDs you have to order to watch it all. Don't watch before reading.

I just finished "Hannibal Rising" and it was really good. I've read all the books on Hannibal and this was probably one of my favorites.

For crime books/murder mystery types I really love Lee Childs books based on the Jack Reacher character. Those are awesome books. I've read most of those too. "Echo Burning" and "Persuader" were two of my favorites.

I'm really into Vampire books and just found a series that's been out for a bit by J.R. Ward. I'm reading "Dark Lover" now and it is really good. Bit more of a romance novel and it does have a few slightly gory parts, but it is awesome so far. I just ordered two more in that series.

Hope that helps some :-).

Darren Shan is remarkable, however, so in case you like that i could furnish up Cornelia Funke's works. possibly it is with the help of the fact i grow to be examining them on the comparable time, yet for some reason each occasion wherein the Cirque du Freak is cautioned, Inkheart and the Thief Lord come to my techniques. i did not get far into "Evermore" yet stumbled around the 1st financial disaster a whilst returned and from what I observed, it fairly is remarkable. (Sorry, yet if you suggested 'Twilight' a stable deal of vampire orientated products got here to techniques). I additionally fairly love the books Anthem and the Outsiders. in case you have already examine the latter, attempt something of comparable style: "That grow to be Then, it is Now". A Mango formed area is a classic some woman with synesthesia who can see colours with words and numbers. She has to come again to grips together with her potential/illness and can lose something necessary to locate herself. i will think of of a few others yet do not pick to recommend something i did not in my opinion adore. i assume you have already long previous interior the direction of the Harry Potter sequence? If not, commence on that on the instant. Darkly Dreaming Dexter by utilizing Jeff Lindsay travels into the techniques of a sociopathic serial murderer. there's a television teach in accordance with it. playstation : did you be attentive to they're making the Cirque right into a action picture? I observed the preview for a action picture in accordance with Inkheart, too.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night.

An unputdownable read. It's amazing how the author has put himself in the shoes of a young boy with Autism.

Touching, funny and can be read time again and again.
