why do they wear such excessive padding in amercian football cause in rugby we wear next to no padding when compared to amercian footballers?

You really need to play the game to understand. But I'll try to explain. Football players are flying at each other full speed, with the intention of knocking someone out. If anything, the use of pads makes the hitting much more violent and severe. Hitting someone with the top of your helmet is like hitting someone with a hammer. Shoulder pads allow you to hit someone at full speed without breaking your shoulder, collar bone, neck. So you can hit someone a lot harder. The nature of the game of football is different from rugby. Rugby players are equally as tough, but the style of play is different.

Because American football is a multi-billion dollar sport. The owners are protecting their investment. The NFLPA would like the players to last more than 1-2 seasons because they are not easily replaceable.
Rugby, on the other hand, makes virtually no money. You can find players by going to any pub and offering 2 free pints to the nearest bloke that is actually conscious.

Padding is mostly for the head and shoulders which is what the players hit each other with when making tackles.

There really isn't that much padding. Hip pads, knee pads, thigh pads, Jock straps shoulder pads and helmets. Just think about how much contact is involved, and what would happen without these.

why do police officers wear bullet proof vests?
..........to keep them from dying or becoming seriously injured
you can like Rugby more than Football but don't be so biased that you can't think straight

Because American football players get hit harder and they can tackle others to the ground.

because in america the players r huge and strong and bring a lot of hurt, but i watch rugby sometimes and i only saw one good tackle they basically push other players down

just watch nfls "jacked up" then u will understand why they wear so many pads they get destroyed and without padding they would probaley get killed
