Garage salers are looking for bargains.

Don't throw your items on the ground unless they are large and people can see them. If you put little trinkets, stuffed animals and clothes out on ground level, hardly anyone will look at them.

Clothes typically don't sell well, so put them hanging up where at least people will walk by and glance.

Out by the street, put some nice items that are desirable, such as furniture.

Final tip - price everything! Some people like to use gimmicky things like color coded stickers with a large sign that tells potential buyers what the prices are. Most people won't get it, and will just end up pestering you for prices. And if things aren't priced, most people will just keep going unless they are very interested in the item.

Buyers are looking for something for nothing. Watch out for any early shoppers who try to convince you to sell everything on the spot for $50 or so. He will claim you have nothing of value and no one will buy.
These people then take used items to sell, one by one, at flea markets.

You will get a lot of cheapskates who want to offer you much less then your prices. You can barter some, but stand your ground and don't just give your things away.

Stay away from too many used clothes. People don't tend to look too close at them. You want bigger items like shelves and couches.

AND CLEAN EVERYTHING!
