All of them are about a well-to-do woman and a "underclassed" guy. They shouldn't be together, but go against the odds. Then, outside forces try to break them apart, whereas this is the part in the story where it looks like all hope is lost. Then, something happens where they end up rekindling the passion and make a run at overcoming the odds completely. Although some of the stories end with dying, they are pretty much the same straight through. It seems this is at least Hollywood's view of what a woman desires deep down. The scruffy man who changes their outlook and perception of life. He throws their world into a frenzy that they can't get enough of and is everything they secretly want in a man.

They may not be the best or good love stories, but they have made good bank. Of course, there are others that do well too and have other shared storylines (such as damsel in distress and save her, etc), but its just interesting to notice the commonalities shared between such stories and the continued success of them.

I wonder why you are` asking? Do you mean a good love story on paper or in life? A good love story is a believable story line one people can relate to. Its where the woman can look into the man's eyes ten years later and still see love in his eyes. Its making love to each other across the room without touching. A good love story is a couple that fall in love, over come each others family's or another normal problem in life, its their ability to compromise, take the best out of each of them and blend and become one that can stand up to anything that comes their way, its the ability to know without being told, to feel without direction to finish the others breath, and know within them self the others sadness or pain or joy. to share, believe and trust to fall and rise back up together hands interlocked and know that they... would do it all again, to keep and have what they do. For it is very sad to be with someone and yet you are truly alone. A good love story is one that captures a reader, one that usually wouldn't read such a piece and find that they can't put it down.

I feel the emotions of the characters, I share their pain, their thoughts, I know exactly what they are going through.

And most of all, when you've fallen in love with the hero and envy the heroine because he is real to her and they live happily ever after.

And it's so good, that you can't put it down. You know that you've got something else you need to do, like the dishes, but you keep saying, one more chapter.

And I know when I'm reading someone else's story, that when I these same feelings, it is a good love story, at least to me.

A struggle between an antagonist and a protagonist....I love stories where someone is either being attacked, stalked, or hunted down. And I definitely don't mean in a gross way....I love stories that have someone who's in trouble, like Nora Roberts 'Montana Sky'. Also, steamy sex scenes are always good....but have lots of build-up first!
