Who is in favor of replacing the income tax with the Fair Tax? As far as I am concerned, it could not possibly happen too soon!

I agree with you nickolassc...the 16th definately needs to be repealed!

sociald...How can the flat tax be fair when it is still a tax on income, and there is no way a tax on the income of individuals could ever be fair?

2007-06-25 08:33:24 · update #2

surveillance_guy...The fair tax is a sales or consumption tax, and the flat tax is in no way fair because it is still an income tax, and 10% can still take a very large bite out of a working poor person's pay check! With the fair tax, poor people have the option of buying second hand, and if they make that choice, they are not forced to pay the tax!

Please check the fair tax out, by googling it, and please watch America from freedom to fascism, to learn more about the history behind the income tax!

Just good folks...I am not talking about a flat tax...a flat tax is still an income tax, and I am completely against taxing the income of individuals! The Fair Tax is a tax on consumption, and it is one of the two kinds of taxes that are allowed by the constitution! Please do the research, and find out what it is really all about!

David S, there is no way you can possibly understand the fair tax if you think it is socialism at its worst. It is a tax on consumption, and it is one of the two kinds of taxes that are exclusively allowed by the original constitution...before that 16th amendment fraud was perpertrated against the American people!

WOW Superman! I am speechless. That is an awesome answer! I don't know if I will pick it as best, or not...but so far........wow!

derikscudder.....I will give you evil, but if it was so necessary, how in the world did we get along without it before 1913!

Are you aware that the constitution only allows for two categories of taxation...and the income tax does not fall into either?

Are you aware that the 16th amendment was snuck through when almost all the representatives were on a Christmas break?

Please check out the Fair tax website, and read what it is all about, and please google and watch the video..America From Freedom To Fascism...also, please refer to the following posted answers:

The Alaska state constitution claims common heritage rights of ownership of oil and other minerals for the people of the state as a whole. Citizen dividend checks are distributed every year in Alaska out of the interest payments to an oil royalties deposit account called the Alaska Permanent Fund (APF) created in 1976 after oil was discovered on the North Slope. The APF is a public trust fund - a diversified stock, bond and real estate portfolio - into which are deposited the oil royalties received from the corporations which extract the oil from the lands of Alaska. The first citizen dividend check from the interest of the APF was issued in 1982 and was for $1000 per every person for everyone in Alaska who had resided in the state for at least one year. Annual citizen dividends have been issued every year since then, for a total of more than $23,000 per person.

In 2003, each of the nearly 600,000 Alaska US citizens (residents of Alaska for at least one year) received a check for $1,107 from the APF. The total amount dispersed was $663.2 million. The $25 billion investment fund's core experienced stock market losses which led to the dividend's decline this past year compared to the several previous years. The amount was $433 less, a 28 percent drop from the 2002 pay out of $1,540, and a 44 percent decrease from the all-time high of $1,964 in year 2000. The amount changes based on a five-year average of APF investment income derived from the bonds, stock dividends, real estate and other investments.

Alaska relies on oil for about 80 percent of its revenue and has no sales or income tax. Alaska state government is mandated to invest 25% of its oil revenue into the APF while the other 75% of oil royalty revenue is dispersed to other government funds to finance education, infrastructure and social services. If 100% of Alaska's oil royalties had been deposited into the APF, it is conceivable that the CD this year could have been about $4,400 or $17,600 for a family of four. But then there would have been no funds for roads, education and other public services and no funds available to run the state legislature - a libertarian dream fulfillment or a social and economic disaster, which one we will never know. If state services were to have been maintained while 100% of oil royalties were deposited in the APF, there would of course have been the need for income, sales and other taxes on wages and production.

They make speeches about they must have taxes, and every politician knows what is being done in Alaska. Alaska Pays all their residents with earth rights and doesn’t tax their residents. This makes the politicians liars!

They make speeches to get elected and make promises about what they will do for us. They say nothing about getting every dime of lobby money to do what big biz wants that’s opposite what they promised you they would do. That makes them cheats!

They stole your grandmother’s retirement money from SS. Now you face getting nothing for your SS payments. That makes them thieves!

They tax us, but they know the foreign companies pay no taxes on the goods they sell here. The goods are sold then bought on paper in a foreign port to skate the tax laws. Thus eliminating their profit on paper to cheat the US out of the taxes they owe. This makes them backstabbers!

They take lobby money to put earmarks and pork in every law that passes their desk. Then they do photo ops, a news clips to promote themselves as doing something good for us and America. So they corkscrew us!

They make back room deals and give our tax money to foreigners who build factories with our money. Then they write laws that send our jobs overseas. This makes them dirty dealers!

So lets total all this up. They lie, cheat, steal, backstab, corkscrew, and dirty deal. HELL their Flim Flam Men! Just like in the George C. Scott movie “ The Flim Flam Man”!
They are called the “ Honorable” Senator or Representative. Hell Flim Flam Men have NO honor what so ever! They’re crooks, criminals for God’s sake!

The BBC has film of ALL of them going in and out of Abramoff’s restaurant. That’s THE place in DC to get loaded with lobby money. The BBC has been running this story, and trying to get the US media to run it too. The US media refuses to run the story.

It’s time to take America back! Get registered! VOTE! Vote for anyone that’s not a Democrat or a Republican. They have ALL the power and ALL the control. They must bear ALL the responsibility for their gross mismanagement, abysmally poor judgment, lies, cheating, thefts, back stabs, corkscrews, and dirty deals! It’s time to put THEM in the unemployment line!

I could not tell you honestly that I like income tax. In my opinion, it is unfair, especially under this Republican regime, because the working family has not been helped while the richer families are getting the tax relief.

A equalized tax that is levied on all Americans regardless of income or wealth would be fair. There should be no loopholes that ordinary people do not understand but that huge corporation hire expensive lawyers to find. There should be only one reduction...huge medical bills, which should automatically be deducted from the tax bill.

Another thing. Corporations that put up dummy companies in Third World countries, then continue to do a tax-free business here in the United States should not be allowed. And the trade laws should be rewritten to give a fair shake to the export of American products.

This is pipe dreaming, of course, because the next generation and the next will still be paying monies borrowed from China and other countries for the War in Iraq. We have seen a systematic looting of a once-rich treasury, and we will have to pay the piper eventually.

I would like a system which is so squeaky clean that I can actually feel proud to pay taxes into. This was the basic foundation on which our tax system was created but alas over the years, the politicians, the Generals, and the defense contractors managed to find millions of ways to screw it up. SO honestly, no I don't like to pay the income tax today. Not sure how fair this Fair tax will be either.

Yes,I like it.Graduated income tax is more fair than the so called fair tax.Strongest shoulders carry the heaviest burden. It's only fair.
To me it's very clear that if you implement a flat tax the poor pay more.
If I have a thousand dollars and have to pay five hundred dollars, half my income is gone.
If I have hundred thousand dollars and I have to pay five hundred dollars,I won't even notice.
Socialist would be to give everyone equal pay no matter what they do or how they preform at that job.Or tax everyone to that extend that their income is nett the same.
Graduated income tax is a globally used fair system and has nothing to do with socialism
Don't wealthy individuals and corporations gain the most benefit from a stable well funded government? Just consider how they benefit from a good infrastructure of roads, rail lines & port. Consider how they benefit from a well educated workforce

A country like the United Stated cannot function without the support of its citizenry. We expect too much as a people to fairly deny our responsibility to contribute. I do not like paying taxes either, but understand it must be done. What I would like to see is either a national sales tax OR implementing a simple flat income tax system with zero loopholes. If every working adult and every for-profit business paid 10% of their gross income, there would be no deficit. Additionally, the fat of the budget must be trimmed. We need to run this country like a business.

I love income tax!! Love it. Love it. Love it. But then again I love being knocked over the head repeatedly with a blackjack and have a third of my paycheck stolen from me every time I cash it so rich corporations wont have to put anything back into this country for infrastructure and just reap the benefits of its work force, natural resources, and consumer base.

Yes... and No... and here is why:

Income Tax is a necessary evil, in that funds are needed by our Federal Government to administer the laws of the nation-- to fund education and roads (as others have mentioned) but also to fund control of social programs, airline regulations, scientific research, farming, and on and on. To clarify for some of you, Social Security benefits are not paid through revenue generated by Income Tax, but rather by a separate tax specifically designated a Social Security tax. The problems facing Social Security stem from the fact that our politicians have not done the responsible thing (particularly our current administration) and they have "dipped into" Social Security funds in developing their budget which has damaged the long-term prospects for Social Security solvency. As the Baby Boomer generation hits retirement age, more will be going out than coming in. Had the funds Baby Boomer's paid in when they were working been left alone (rather than being used for defense expenditures) this would not be such a significant problem.

Now, I think the question you are actually wanting to ask here is, does anybody like the United States' current Income Tax and the methods through which our Income Tax dollars are spent.

As it is currently set up, and as others point out above, the U.S. Income Tax is whacked. Politicians spend funds in an irresponsible manner, and leave the citizens paying their bills little reason to have faith in a system that they repeatedly demonstrate is flawed. Huge tax breaks are handed out to wealthy individuals and corporations, while less well-off individuals are sentenced to jail, forced to file bankruptcy, or have their wages garnished for failure to pay taxes. The U.S. government hands out MILLIONS of dollars for scientific research grants which are used by big Pharma companies, who in turn patent their medication and sell it at inflated costs to those who need it to survive. The grant money is not repaid, despite the BILLIONS in profits earned with the government's support. Large Conglomerate Farms are subsidized by government grants, while ma and pa are forced to sell off to huge conglomerates to pay for college.

The Defense Industry, and Big Oil continue to grow increasingly filthy, and increasingly wealthy at the expense of GI Joe (the REAL American Hero) and you, me, and Dupree. George, Dick, and Karl sit back smokin' cigars (see-gars) on their land in Texas (where it's apparently okay to blast your buddy with a shotgun)-- while their bank accounts grow increasingly larger with each American Boy that dies in Iraq. Read "The Iron Triangle" to learn more about Dick and W's relationship to the Carlyle Corporation and thus, Halliburton, and you will realize that we are being HAD.

It is not so much that there is a problem with Income Tax, so much as there is a problem with those who administer the funds acquired through the income tax. We are taking money of out of the hands of many responsible people and placing it in the hands of irresponsible idiots when we give money to George W Bush. It is like taking a football out of Walter Payton's hands in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl and handing the ball to Corky from life goes on (no offense to those with Down Syndrome intended). Let's fix our political system, first, by implementing controls on campaign finance, and see if that ultimately doesn't straighten up some of the problems. Bring in third, fourth, fifth parties, and see if we can't get some decent people running the show. As it stands, our nation is following the lead of the Romans... and the last time I checked Rome was not still standing.

Dead Marxist---you'd like to abolish the income tax and not replace it with ANYthing?
Hmmm. Think about it people. Do you like having roads to drive on, bridges to cross over bodies of water, sewers, water lines....? Oh, I could go on and ON.
My solution is to abolish the tax loopholes created by the wealthy, for the wealthy. If the wealthy paid their fair share (and I'm all for getting rid of CORPORATE welfare, Marxist) we'd be rollin' in it.

Every time I look at the fair tax, I see something very unfair.

Thanks, but I already pay enough in taxes and don't see why I should be screwed even more. Every version of the "fair tax" I've seen has been socialism at its worst. That doesn't mean that it can't be implemented fairly but so far the proposals for the modern rendition have been regressive.

By the way, yes I've read Article I, Section 8.

What is fair? I think it is fair for me to pay less than you.
Without income tax where would the revenue for the country come from? Yes, we have other sources but they don't generate enough money to run our government. No one likes taxes but they are a fact of life. Ben Franklin said that the only things one can be sure of in life is death and taxes. If they don't get you one way they will another.
