I would deal with it in the same way I did before I had one. Friends numbers can be obtained again, but I do have them written down on paper just in case. Personal messages are rarely that important that they can't be lost and photographs if important enough should be printed out or saved onto disc.
We don't need mobile phones, we just think we do.

How would you have survived before the mobile phone was invented . Yes it would be a pain to have to get a new phone and put the numbers in but keeping only copies on the phone is not sensible like with a computer make back up copies ,get your photos printed and take down in a book all the important numbers and messages. I am older and am mot glued to a phone or text in 24/7 so i do not depend on A mobile so could cope with out it.

Yo centipede,
1. Figure out where you last saw it and see if you can retrieve it. If it's gone, it's gone, and there is no way you can get any of the photographs, etc back.
2. If you have facebook, make an event titled, "I lost my phone, I need phone numbers." Backup the phone numbers on a computer data file.
3. Buy a used phone on eBay, if you want to save money. Also buy a really cheap backup phone so if this happens again you will have a backup that can be used, until you get a new phone.

For me it would not be a problem. I only use my mobile phone for texts.
Yes it does have all my contacts in it but I also have them all on my laptop. I don't have that many pictures on mine so it would be a pity to lose them but I would be OK about that.
You see I am an aged person so the mobile phone is not that important to me however, if I was younger I would have a hissy fit, think that I'd lost my life and friends if my mobile was lost.

I'm not attached by an umbilical cord to my mobile and (almost) always have the phone numbers in my written address book. Therefore, when my mobile was stolen it was an inconvenience not a disaster!
Maybe it is because I'm older and remember only too well having to have a written address book in the days before mobiles. Old habits die hard!

I'm glad I don't have a mobile anymore. Why pay money to put a microwave oven to my head? The right side of the brain governs intuition and creativity so right-handed people might be affecting their intuition and creativity by holding a mobile phone to their right ear. Swap ears every minute. Some people are electrically sensitive and get sick under transmitters.

Mine is backed up to my computer. I'd just upload all the info to a new phone.
