well it depends on what your interests are. It's summertime here, I don't know if it is where you are, but if it's warm, try walking or hiking, or just going to the park for picnics or throwing a frisbee around, bike riding, anything to get you out from in front of the television. If it's wintertime and you can't get outside, try this. Look through the Internet or old travel magazines and cut out pictures of places you'd like to go. You don't actually have to go there, part of the fun is dreaming together of someplace exotic. Look up places that you would go to there, like restaurants, hotels, plan the whole trip together. If you can't afford to actually go, make it a goal to go there by the time you celebrate your 10th anniversary or whatever (pick a number). Me and my husband did this and it was so much fun checking out the sites that we would like to see, even if it was just virtual, we had fun and learned a little bit about each other's hopes and dreams.

Ewww, you both could end up with potato butts! How about going for an evening walk, right after dinner. Puzzles while watching TV are another thing, at least you two are actually doing something together. Join a bowling league, you don't have to be good to have fun, and they are really inexpensive. Board games are an old-time favorite too!

It depends on you both, doing something besides watching TV does not take a lot of effort really.
Just going out for a walk together is better than not, it does not have to take all night.
If you look around you will find stuff to do, Churches offer a ton of activities and they do not require that you belong or believe in anything to participate. There are other resources - community centers, etc. that will have information about activities.

There is loads you can do! If you are active, join an indoor climbing club, ice skating or ten pin bowling club maybe. If not, they try amateur dramatics or one of the huge array of evening classes I am sure are available at local colleges. My husband and I sit in front of the tv most of the week as well, but I do Belly Dancing classes and use toning tables at a local gym.

Birdwatching is cheap. I sit outside with my digital camera and catch shots of the local birds then use the internet to try to I.D. the birds. :) My hubby and I have really gotten into backyard birdwatcing and we now have bird feeders to attract certain types of birds! :)
You can go to your local library and do genealogical research on families in your area. If you are not from the state you currently live in and you want to research your family lineage, ask the librarian to help you with the microfilm records from other states. They may even have databases you can get into at the library for free. :) Take a pen and a legal pad to jot notes down. Also take some change so you can use the copier if you want.
You can volunteer in your community. Some ideas: Habitat for Humanity (build houses, work in their store, help with paperwork), your local animals shelter or Humane Society (help clean up and care for animals - help get animals ready for adoption), your local Latino organization (help immigrants learn English)...
You could learn a new language (start at www.byki.com with their free Lite program for the language of your choice).
You could learn to do origami or paper cutting (free lessons all over the net - start at "about.com").
You could also start recycling old jewelry. You go to the store and buy fishing line, tiny needle-nosed pliers or sturdy tweezers and a jewelry repair kit. Then gather all your old jewelry, and see if anyone in your family has anything they'd like to donate. Take the broken pieces and make new jewelry. When you run out of pieces, hit the Good Will store, yard sales or the flea market for more 'supplies'. :) You might even find someone at the flea market willing to sell your "creations" on commission! :) You can buy non-lined note cards in different colors and print and cut your own little cards for the jewelry to be attached to. This makes it look a bit more professional if you're trying to sell it. :)
When I was younger, I dried flowers and made arrangements out of dried flowers and herbs. There was no such thing as eBay back then, but today, you could make a little extra money out of a hobby like that!
Good luck and have fun! :)

Amateur radio is a terrific hobby. It includes all facets of challenge, education, socially fun, helpful to the community and to people in need, adds much to most other hobbies, and it can satisfy you no matter what spending amount you have decided to work in.
My wife and I use it for generally keeping up with each other even when we go to flea markets, or are commuting, or traveling separately.
Things we do together on it include digital operations, contests, joining clubs, and much much more.

Why not try Salsa or Tai Chi or ballroom dancing or something like that.
Anyway, new house rule; The TV is only on for 5 hours in total from Monday to Friday!
