Its like when people find out about Santa or Christianity or any farcical tale.
Eureka! Their whole life and beliefs built on a facade totally destroyed. Happens.

People can watch Joe X play an aviator, then Joe X plays a husband with 9 kids, then Joe X plays a spy - then a Viking, and all of that gets by
But as soon as they find out Joe X is gay, suddenly they think he cant really be ANY of those roles. Most especially the ones in which he is with a woman.
Audiences think gay actors may only play gay people on the screen.

Because in their mind the guy isn't masculine any longer. They know they don't have a chance with that person but they like to dream.
It doesn't matter to them that the celeb might be the most masculine guy alive the fact that he is gay offsets that.

I guess they feel let down or "lied to" somehow.
It's no big deal to me if a celebrity turns out to be gay (actually, it tends to explain a lot, like when David Hyde Pierce came out of the closet officially). But I will confess to being very disappointed when I found out that astronomer Carl Sagan was a big advocate of smoking pot....

It ruins there fantasy if there gay but inceases my chances if there gay. If i found out that the rock was gay, i'd be like at least there's a chance for me but then all his female fans will be disappointed those who think they'd get him in bed.

It's not because they are attracted to the person... it's because people don't have their own identities. Their world is based entirely on what celebrities are doing, and they think it actually affects them. Who cares if so-and-so is gay? It doesn't affect my life? I have my own life, and my life isn't dependent on what anyone else does.

Because these people are put up on high and when people realize they are gay it's just kind of like, oh well that's a shame. It knocks them down from being perfect.

Because it ruins their fantasy of being with that person. (Assuming they are straight.) For me, I'd like it/ get a kick out of it, if I found out a celebrity was gay or lesbian.

Same reason they dont accept "non celebrity" gay people.... because its not considered the "norm". Its considered a sin... people are afraid of different views on things...e tc

Don't you know that superheroes are not supposed to be gay, that might make them human. Probably more like the fact that they would be untouchable to all the little sillies that go chasing them.
