I know exactly when I conceived but when I talk to people they say Doctors usually add 1-2 weeks to that date. Why is that? I will be seeing my Doctor this week to find out but until then I'm just curious and wanted to ask you all!! If I conceived May 10th (when I was ovulating)....does that mean I am almost 7 weeks pregnant or almost 9 weeks pregnant? Thanks in advance!!

Doctors start counting back on the 1st day of your last period, which I suspect was around April 26th. So that means that you will be considered 9 weeks pregnant around June 28th. Congrats!

Typically you ovulate 2 weeks after the first day of your last period. That is how they calculate it. Because most people don't know the actual date they ovulated or conceived they estimate the due date from the first day of the last period. I would guess that you are 8 weeks along. Count back 3 months from the first day of your last period and add 7 days. So if your period was April 26, count back to January 26 and add 7 days. Your due date will be February 2. It's not as accurate as an ultrasound, but it is usually pretty close.

You are 8 weeks and 4 days pregnant

Only 31 weeks and 3 days left until your baby is born

You are at your 1st trimester

46 days have passed from your LMP and 220 days are left until your due date (01/31/08)

17% of your pregnancy is completed

Congratulations. You are also due one month after me!

By the way, once you go to the doctor they will want to try and guess the due date based on your last period. If you don't know, that is fine. They will give you a due date of January 31st until your first scan. Once you have your first scan they will measure the baby and then give you a new due date based on the development of the baby. I started out with a due date of January 2nd and after the scan they came up with January 4th (due to development). So don't be surprised if they change your date on you.

I had a scan early. We were "trying" to have a baby for a while and they gave me a scan for fertility when I was four weeks pregnant. I did not know I was pregnant then so they were checking the tubes and stuff to try and figure out why we weren't getting pregnant. Anyway, I called the doctor three days later and told her I was pregnant. She said that was impossible because her scan did not show a baby or sack. I was so upset. They had me come back in (at six weeks) all upset. They even made me go to a specialist. Anyway, they were able to see the baby no problem and the heartbeat. The first time I had it done either they were not qualified to use the machine or they didn't see it because they weren't looking (they were looking for fertility only).

I only share this story to let you know two things. One, you need to get to a doctor as soon as possible. Two, you need to realize that doctors are human and don't realize that sometimes they tell us things that are upsetting.

If you need a penpal, let me know. I can tell you what to look for as you progress since we are only 3 1/2 weeks apart.

I have my 12 week appointment tomorrow so wish me luck.

My love, First off congrats!!!, Secondly any doctor or N.P. will tell you that when you are first trying to calculate your due date, you do not count from the day you conceived, you count from the first day of your last menstrual period, subtract 3 months and add 7 days. This will tell you your due date. I give you an example. If the first day of of your last menstrual period was May 20, the you take the month of May and take away three months. In this case 3 months would be February. Then you add 7 days to the date of your LMP. In this case adding 7 days would give date of the 27. By that formula the your due date would be February 27, 2008. Try it! I bet a million bucks that that's the date, give or take a day. Your OB/GYN will give you a more accurate date once you've had your first ultra sound. That will be based on the size of your baby and development rate.

I would say you are closer to 9 weeks, because you go by your last period not the concieved date and that is usually about 2 weeks before. You wont know for a fact until you have you first sonogram. Those will tell you down to the day how far along you are. I would guess you will be due sometime in Feburary 2008...
Congrats and Good Luck !!

Well, the complete cycle is 40 weeks for pregnancy, some women go for 42 weeks but the total number of days is 280 (40 weeks). There are also websites that if you submit your last period, it gives you a due date and tells you how far along you are.

The doctor goes by the first day of you menstrual cycle. which would put you 2 weeks usually ahead of what you are suppose to be. I am not to sure why they do this they just do. If you go to www.babycenter.com you can go to ovulation calculator and it will tell you your due date.
