Generally Core 2 duo are better than pentium dual core.
Pentium dual core is to core 2 duo what celeron was to pentium.
If you want to know whether AMD's dual processor cpus are better or worse than Intel's dual processor cpus, then I'd have to say that both companies make many different kinds of dual processor cpus that vary widely in performance and they are coming out with new ones every few months that change who has the slightly better "best" cpu.
It does not really matter if it's the "best" one today when it won't be the "best" one for more than a month or so.

If you're asking about Intel's processors, there was a "Core Duo" series that was followed by a "Core 2 Duo"
The Core Duo series which is generally marked by T2xxx processors had some problems supporting multi-threaded applications like Microsoft Office, which were resolved in the Core 2 Duo series which are generally T5xxx and T7xxx series.

DUAL-CORE is a general category of processors, just like "4-cylinder engine" refers to a category of cars. Dual-core processors include the Intel Pentium-D, AMD X2 and Intel Core 2 Duo.
When an advertisement says "dual-core" that doesn't tell you specifically which chip you're getting. Sometimes it's a marketing trick used to try and sell an older processor like a Pentium-D.
CORE 2 DUO is a particular line of dual-core processors from Intel, and they are currently the best on the market.

Dual what? That's not a processor. Core 2 Duo is a processor, but there's no processor named "Dual".
--------------------
UPDATE:
"Dual Core
2 Duo"
The Core 2 Duo is a dual core processor.

Actually there is an Intel Dual-Core line. Seems off to me also, but they're on Newegg.com: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2+50001157+40000343+1050729314&Configurator=&Subcategory=343&description=&Ntk=&srchInDesc=
Though it's obvious Core 2 Duo is better.

After reading all of those answers you should be very inteligent now. The best of all of them and even better than the quad core is the Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800. I have read review after review and they all say that this one is the best. It can also be overclocked further than the quad core.
