Go to Start - Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs - Add/Remove Windows Components - Uncheck IE, and click remove.

This will "remove" it, not really but it is what you want, but before that make sure you dl firefox or something.

I don't blame you. I hate pop-ups too. If you have version 6.0 or higher, there is an automatic pop-up blocker.
Here are the steps:
1) Click on the 'Tools' menu
2) Click on the 'Internet Options' sub-menu
3) Click on the 'Privacy' tab
4) Click on the 'Block pop-ups' checkbox in the lower left hand corner.

And someone else mentioned that you can disable IE from being the default browser.
Here are the steps:
1) Click on the 'Tools' menu
2) Click on the 'Internet Options' sub-menu
3) Click on the 'Programs' tab
4) Click on the 'Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser' checkbox if it is checked (to uncheck it of course).

Go to Control Panel, click on "Add or Remove Programs", and it should be called "Windows Internet Explorer". The programs are in alphabetical order, so it should be at the bottom. Then click uninstall!

Hope that helps!

Actually you supposedly cannot. It can be done but it would make things very bad. What you should do is just not use it, and make Firefox your default browser. And in IE tell it NOT to search to be the default browser.
