Pregnant women often mention feeling their baby having hiccups while in the womb and wonder what causes this. The exact cause of your baby's hiccups is unknown. However, many specialists believe that your baby's hiccups may be helping to strengthen the diaphragm muscle in order to help the baby breathe both in the womb and once they are born. In many cases your baby will have the hiccups at the same time everyday. Some research even suggests that hiccups are actually soothing to your baby, and help to relieve a variety of pressures on his growing lungs and organs.

With my second pregnancy in 2006, I felt the hiccups EVERY DAY! You wouldn't think that something so small and minute could be so annoying!! lol
It feels weird like a nerve twitching or something and my daughter did it faithfully until the day she was born.
Only the more mature fetuses will hiccup, as hiccups rely on the development of the central nervous system. Some experts think that hiccups in utero is a response to fetal drinking or fetal breathing, which causes the flow of amniotic fluid in and out of the lungs, stimulating the diaphragm to contract.

My daughter seemed to have the hiccups all the time when I was pregnant with her. There isn't anything you can do about it. It is kind of cute at first, but it can get annoying after awhile. My grandmother always used to say that when you hiccup it was because you were growing. So I would just tell myself she was growing and try to be patient. Don't worry about it, it is common.

All babies have the hiccups. They will continue to have them after they are born. It's normal and has nothing to do with you or what you are eating.

My daughter had them all day and would get them at 9:00 on the dot every night when I was trying to go to sleep. She had them all the time after she was born. It was really cute!

It's normal, with all four of my boys it happened on a regular basis and drive me crazy after awhile. It's normal. It happens when the baby swallows amniotic fluid so it's nothing your doing.

it is not related to anything you are doing. my son had them everyday, probably 4 or 5 times a day. he still ha them now, hes 5 monthsold now, but not as often. it is due to them having an immature digestive system when they are born. inutero, they are practicing.
