There are many things that I think would positively impact the global community, but I think one of the most likely is wireless power. I know some researchers at a university completed a successful trial of wireless power by sending power through the air to power a light bulb across a room a few weeks back, and find this very exciting. Just think about how much different our homes would be if we didn't need to have any wires!
I also think that cool fusion could play a huge part into our future, but I do not foresee this being a breakthrough for some time yet.

I am hoping, that through stem cell research, people like myself might be able to grow a new limb. If scientists could get a gene programmed to grow a new arm or leg it would significantly affect the lives of millions of people worldwide. Man, I would give just about anything to have two legs again. I have 5 computers, but only one leg.
I see many new innovations in electronics and fun stuff too. There will for sure be more fiber optics and wired communications devices will be way obsolete.
I would add that it will be interesting to see what humanitarian efforts are gaining in the future as well.

What we need to have are Solar generating sources. Something like paneling only smaller and easily applied to any surfaces. This kind of stuff is being tested. But it isn't in production. This is the time for mass production of these types of energy producing elements.

(Just to make this clear, I do NOT think that these are 'good' things):

-National ID cards
-Smart chip cards
-US citizens needing passports to enter Canada & Mexico
-Government intrusion regarding personal phone calls and emails (and who knows how many other things)
-The return of the draft
-A Worldwide Government
-International police
(etc., etc., etc.)

All of these are invasions of our privacies. Additionally, this would jumble the entire human race into one culture. A secret vacation or honeymoon would no longer be a secret...

The ability to quickly create petrochemicals from bio-matter. It would save us from looking for an alternative fuel source for fossil fuels.
