there are built in tutorials and a help file system with Photoshop that cant be beat. Tons of info in there that you can use to get started. It is geared to the beginner, so start there. If you need more help search for forums on that specific topic.
I like the Photoshop "Classroom in a Book" series.

I dont see the exact book I bought, but I prefer books made
by Adobe, instead of generic versions.

And if you have a Frys, in your area, they always have a good
selection of books, and magazines for photshop.
