I live on the "Redneck Riviera." The morons here always fire their guns into the air on July 4th and New Years. Earlier this year, I found a .45 slug lodged between the broken glass window and screen at our church. What goes up, must come down.
Can you discharge your weapon? Sure, if you have ammunition. The question becomes, will you be held accountable and liable for any injuries, damage or deaths you cause? The law says that you WILL go to jail if caught. But will you get caught? I doubt it.

I give this GREAT question a STAR!
Dude, go for it! One of the things our country is famous for is our Declaration of Independence, The Constitution and our Bill of Rights. The second amendment guarantees our God-given right to keep and bear arms!
If you are safe and sure you aren't going to spray birdshot into anyone's eye and no one can see you, especially any prissy butts like some of the answerers on here, do it!
Happy Independence Day! Remember our Nation's Founders who placed their lives, fortunes and sacred honor on the Altar of God so that we may live, love, work and worship without government interference!

For lots of noise and nothing falling back to earth, open the end of the shotgun shell, spill out the pellets, fold the crimp back. The primer will ignite the powder and only shoot out the wads. Wads come out with force, continue to use caution, aim in the air. Of course, never point a gun in an unsafe direction, especially "empty ones".

If you want to do it SAFELY try blanks, nothing else because you could risk accidental injuring a neighbor and then you could be in real trouble with the law. I suggest that you rethink it and plus in many areas fireworks are illegal.

no what kind stupid dangerous idea is that. When fire a bullet or shoot gun shell those rounds do not go into space or disappear why do think they call it ballistics.when do that rounds end up miles or kilometers away from where you shoot the gun so doesn't matter if you are in a open area or little populated area if you live in the city thaz even more stupid to do.So stick to firecrackers.if don't care about adults it can hit a child how you feel about that.

Most places that I know of have an oridinance about firing a gun such as a rifle or shot gun to close to a house, whether it's your house or not. It would be better for everyone involved if you did not fire off your shotgun at your house. Take it to a range if you want to do so.

Fireworks are dangerous if not used properly; shotguns are definitely dangerous in an urban location.
Check with your local law enforcement. Probably not allowed.
