Our cat acts much like yours, even if you hold him up showing yourself holding him in the mirror. I don't know if they don't comprehend it, or are just too stubborn, dumb, or just too bored by it all. Perhaps it's instinctive. Our cat is not too dumb to continue hiding wherever he can until you say, "Chuck, You want some num-nums?" He loves his num-nums.

The cat we have can see himself. He jumps at the mirror, like he is trying to attack another cat. It's pretty funny actually because he never learns. He hits the mirror and then just continues to do it over and over again. Dumb cat, lol..

Cats can, because my kitten used to paw his reflection, but he learned to recognize himself, and now he doesn't react.

Folklore says that if a cat recognizes its reflection it will always be loyal and stay home.
