Lake Compounce is a traditional park that's operated for over a century. It's got several roller coasters including one of the top wooden roller coasters in the world, is by a lake, has a ski lift, train, and stuff to keep you busy for a long time.
Lake Quassy, is a mini version of Lake Compounce, with more compact rides, fewer rides, and is also fun. It doesn't have the ski lift, or the big train, or the world class coasters, but does have many smaller "carnival sized" rides to make things fun.
So, all in all, they're both good parks. But, Lake Compounce is the larger of the two, by far and thus is probably preferred by more people.
I've been to both several times and prefer LC, especially since Boulder Dash (the world class wooden roller coaster) is at Lake Compounce.
Hope that helps!
