I had two, a 58 and a 68. Good cars. Simple but durable.
The only retractable top cars that I can remember opening and closing while moving were the 1957 thru 1959 Ford Skyliner. Ford said that you could open or close the top while doing up to 35 mph. Ford had a lot of trouble with the tops, the top was messing up and getting damaged with the wind, it also was very hard on the hydraulics. There was more than one running back to the dealer with the top half up and half down.
The VW's may have a switch that makes you put the car in Park or have the emergency brake on before the top will work. It is a safety thing. Good luck with the car you do wind up with.

volkswagens made in the mexico plants are the ones that earn the reputation for breaking down. the germany plant makes some mighty fine autos. if you buy a brand new eos, than you a. have more money than me, b. wil have a car that will last ATLEAST 5 years running on gasoline and oil changes.
the EOS is nothing more than an entry level economy(meaning crap) convertible with a few nice seats. if you don't ned a race car, then it's fine.
also no convertible is ment to be operated while it's in motion. think umbrella in a hurricane. i also hope you're going to garage it, as convertibles can be broken into with a butter knife. (you have a blanket for a roof. it can be cut.)
if this makes you not want the eos anymore, might i suggest a mazda miata, a pontiac solstice/saturn sky, a used BMW(you WON'T be dissapointed. certified BMWs are just as good as a completly new bmw) or a Nissan versa, or a Honda Fit. those are all VERY fun cars to drive.

First off no the roof cannot be put down while you are in motion. I own several volkswagens I own a 67 bug 70 squareback and a 99 cabrio. They are 3 of the best cars I have ever owned if you really want to research cars and ask questions log onto, thesamba.com ,they also sell them on there you will enjoy. Good luck

Volkswagens are good solid cars. It is not a good Idea to put the roof down while driving the force of the wind will rip it off of its hinges or bend it. But then again it is not advisable for any convertible.

Check JD Powers rating on the car you are interested in. Are on line. No not a good idea to take the top down when in motion, as wind can damage your top.

You should never open a convertable when in motion.
VWs reliability has been pretty hit and miss. Historically theyve had electrical issues, but the motors and such have been strong. Dunno if its still the same way.
Personally, I would go for somehting like a used toyota MR2. cheaper, more sporty, better looking, and more reliable.
