My scooter runs great unless I drive further than 5 miles then after I stop it will not start, it has electronic ignition if I wait 30 minutes it will start again, it doesn't seem to get hot, and I don't smell gas any ideas?

You have a low battery or a starter which is ready to fail.

When the starter gets hot, it requires more amperage than when it is cold. Your battery may not have enough power to turn the motor while the starter is hot.

Next time, hook jumper cables up to it right away when it won't start. If it starts with the cables, try a new battery. If the issue persists, replace the starter and starter solenoid.

It sounds like a 2 cycle engine, right? You have a oil tank from which oil is injected as a mix with the fuel. Two strokes as small as yours will sometime seize slightly after getting hot. As it cools the seize reduces and the battery will have enough power to crank the engine. If your scooter is one of the Chinese scooters you should immediately replace the battery. They always put cheap, weak batteries in the scooters they export. It won't have power to crank a hot engine. That will do it probably. If the issue still exists after the battery swap you'll need to get the oil injection system checked. Possibly insufficient oil is being supplied. But, I'll bet on the battery. Always give year, make, engine size and model # when asking questions. We need all of that info to give an informed answer.
Keep a working spark plug with you.
When the scooter won't start, check for spark.
Remove the spark plug cap.
Insert the good spark plug in the cap.
Lay the threads of the plug against a metal part of the engine and try to start.
If there is no spark, the problem is electrical.
Get the coil checked out.
Bad coils, when they warm up, they stop working and magically start working again when they cool down.
Before going for a ride, remove any covers needed to get to the spark plug.
Get back to us with the results.

I agree with the low battery answer. DO NOT! use jumper cables hooked up to a car battery!
I have replaced lots of wiring harnesses and electronics because somebody jumped their bike with a car battery. Use a 6 amp or smaller battery charger or jump it from another bike. Best answer is to replace the battery. Also might wanna check the coil if it has one. coil may be overheating because its failing or cracked.

Sounds like a vapour lock in the fuel line...reroute the fuel lines away from anything hot and it should be OK.
