It is underneath and inside the frame rail at the left side. It is about halfway between the front and rear wheels just behind the drivers seat, but underneath. They are usually covered with the skid plate and/or a thick coating of rustproofing. You can get them out without removing the skid plate, but it is not that easy unless you have a hoist to lift it up to wiggle wrenchs and your hands in there. The filter can be seen through the opening between the left frame rail and the skid plate for the transfer case. Good luck.

Under the truck, left side behind the drivers seat.
