she went to her first Dr appt today. The sonogram did not pick up on any heart beat. She is so upset. She will go back in about a week to have another sonogram done. What can I do for her?

Just be supportive be an ear for her to talk to, and a shoulder to cry on if need be, also reassure her that perhaps she isn't far enough along that the sonogram could pick it up. Sometimes the MD can't pick one up until 12- 13 weeks. If they did it abdominal, and she isn't 3 months along yet, they may not have picked one up, but if they did it trans-vaginally, they have a better chance to pick something up.

Sometimes they can't detect it if it's really early. I am 36 wks pregnant with my second and at my first appointment, they didn't detect a heartbeat. It was a terrible waiting period. I didn't even tell anyone about it because I didn't want to think about it. Tell her it is possible that she is too early yo hear the heartbeat yet. Do you pray ? Maybe you could pray with her.I have alot of faith and I will pray that her baby is safe and healthy and that her next ultrasound shows a strong heartbeat. You are a sweet person to be so concerned for her. People like you are few and far between.

if it is really early the sonogram may not have been able to pick it up yet. Try to help support her for the next week and see if there is a change.

that can be normal depending on how far along she is I did not hear my second sons heart till I was 8 weeks along. There is really nothing that can "make a difference" except her hearing her babies heart beat. Just reassure her all is ok and if may have just been too early.

Just reassure her that everything may still be ok. How far along is she? The baby's heartbeat doesn't show up until around 7-8 weeks. Was there a sac or anything?

Nothing right now. Give her words of support. Hopefully it was just an off day, or the baby is still too small. If not, it will be painful for her. She may need time alone, or may need a shoulder to lean on.

Just tell her everything will be fine, it is probably to early to detect a heart beat and what not. Just encourage her to be strong and think positive, I am sure everything will turn out fine.

Just try to help her stay calm! The same thing happened to me... I was just too early to detect it! I'm now 24.5 weeks along! Just try to help her stay positive and pray!
Very Best Wishes!
