i've been toying with the idea of maybe going for an older car when i turn 17 in August because firstly insurance will be ceaper (although still stupid price), also i don't really thin kthat newer cars (00-) are particularly different from each other while older cars (1985 backwards) are all different and could also provide me with a project, the restoration and modding. Whats your thoughts ???

At that age you should start with an old car. yeah, they're cheaper but i'm more into it coz it teaches u discipline. You really have to care for an old ford than a brand new honda. Its like going thru orientation before college. Then later on when you are much more financially independent, and you buy that new car, looking after your it would be a breeze. Not that a new car needs a lot of maintenance work but it still would not be right without none at all. Just in case minor mechanical problem starts, you could deal with it with ease.

Go with the old car. Use the money you save for college or invest it. I got a '95 Buick 5 years ago for under 5 grand. The most expensive thing I've had to do for it is replace the tires! Although I do try to take it in every year for maintence stuff. Generally runs me about $130 or so each time.

Older cars are OK - For a start off you will not suffer from depreciation as much, but you will need to be prepared to pay out more for parts as the parts are often more difficult to get hold of - you have to bodge some bits together and to be honest they do tend to go wrong a fair bit - so be prepared to do some work...

I would go for something quite recent as they have much better reliability and safety equipment. A mk2 Corsa is a good safe car and very reliable

new cars will require less work + hopefully less visits to the garage, will have newer features, but cost more.

I prefer older cars myself... not classics, but 1990's cars.

all the new cars do look kind of samey.

isn't it down to choice, both old and new have advantages and disadvantages, you must weigh it all up and choose accordingly.
