I am not sure what it is called but in our area no one builds rock houses because of the cost but someone told me that the rock houses I see here are actually rocks that have been sliced and put up for looks. How expensive is this in Alabama compared to actual rock.

Cheaper than actual rock but still expensive and usually just used as accent. You've got the rock cost, cutting and transport as well as cost to install. On the good side, it goes together faster than sorting through countless piles of rock.

You need to contact your rock supplier as the cost will also depends on how far they have to transport the material to their yards.

There are many types of stone for veneering a home. Some are man made that are actually concrete, some are natural stone that is thin so you just stick it on with mortar. I have never seen sawn stone, but I don't see why it would be impossible but it would be expensive. Stone ain't cheap or easy to cut. Go to a local masonry supply and see what they have, brickyards may carry stone too.
