The trend is NOT Communist/Socialist. The trend is efforts aimed at / towards the creation of a totally wonderful politically correct, Utopian society--adaptable comfortably by ALL social cultures on the planet.
Yes...this is a REAL focused goal of several empowered people in Washington DC. Pray you don't vote one to run the WHITE House (a-hemmmmm).
People, and it's amazing there are many in this group who are college educated, who believe such a society is possible has been watching Star Trek a wee tad too much.
Logically, a Utopian society CAN NOT exist; for one to would clearly spell the end of mankind's civilization and rule of the planet.

Democracy/Republic nations is not an opposite for Communist/Socialist. Speaking as a US citizen, communist is a dirty word here. Much different from Europe where the communist party is allowed to have a viewpoint and defeated through a democratic process.
Completely Laissez-Faire economic does not work. Look at the US in the early part of the 20th century and Russia today. Capitalism works best with a very strong middle class. (which most senators/congressman are a part of, contrary to popular belief) Socialism works very well in many countries. Is UK not democratic because of socialist policies, that's an absurd assumption to make. The majority of the people elect the system. There's fierce debate about it, as there is here, and we choose a more capitalist society because it works better with US culture.
My point being, that our viewpoint isn't necessairly "right" or "wrong". Ask a citizen of Baghdad.

First of all the only ones in this trend are loud mouth rich people, like Soros, Moore, & some Hollywood loons who just want to legalize drugs so they don't get busted as for the share the wealth issue why do think they keep the larger share of there fortune of American soil, It's easy to preach but not to practice.
The polititians involved like Clinton use it as a good sound bite If the Dem party goes S.P. it is lost.

The only current trend is toward the New World Order which like communism places power in the hands of a small unaccountable (criminal) group.

The trend is a direct result of the death of the family. With our families being destroyed in every way possible, there is no structure to fall back on in times of trouble. Everyone wants to feel safe, so the government steps in and offers you "security". All it will cost you is your freedom.
This is what we get for promoting anti-family values in our society (abortion, homosexuality, adultery, "shacking up", no-fault divorce, the 2 income household putting children in day care, etc.)
To fix our country, we must first fix our families, it is the foundation of society.

You're referring to developments in South America?
Those developments might better be described as populism, but the most recent examples certainly lean toward socialism.
I think that this is just the latest example of the pendulum swinging back and forth (between liberty and democracy on the one hand, and socialism and dictatorship on the other). They will have to learn for themselves the lessons of history (i.e., by failing to STUDY history, they are doomed to REPEAT it). Eventually, things will move back in a more rational direction. In the meantime, we should be careful not to ENCOURAGE other countries to move in a direction that is disadvantageous to their people and to our interests.

It's being pushed by people who don't want to work and wants eeverything handed to them and by people who want to control everybody else's lives. Problem is, under Socialism and Communism a certain, small elite group tends to take over everything ("All animals are created equal, but some are more equal than others"----Animal Farm)

They are not. The problem is the powerful get elected and get more power. Then they start a "class warfare" and make silly promises and concessions so they can stay in power. It is nothing more than vote buying.
