Well, on the Mclaren website there are profiles of 18 members of the team. These are of course the drivers, management and the technical team.
Then you have to factor in other personnel. The mechanics who are part of the race weekend. The people who work in the factory, the haulage staff, caterers, public relations etc.
In all, the actual number of people working for an F1 team could be in the hundreds.
Just because you only see a handful at races it's unfair to forget the ones who stay behind and keep the factory work in motion.

Ferrari, mclaren and Toyota are the largest employers in f1 currently they have just over 800 employees each this is due in part due to working hours in Germany for Toyota and the fact that all three of these teams build both chassis and engine

the next biggest employers in order are
Honda about 650
Renault about 600
BMW 550 and expanding
Williams and red bull about out 400-500
spyker, super aguri and Torro rosso have the smallest teams but these are still about 200, this is because super aguri and torro rosso buy both chassis and engine and spyker has a limited budget

a few years ago Ferrari had a team personell of around a thousand, however due to recent cost cutting measure such as testing restriction and the fact that they dont have to do all the Tyre testing these numbers have dwindled

the reason for such large numbers is that you have 2 drivers and each of these drivers will have about 5-10 people that are individual to him then there will be about 10 people for both cars and then there are two sets of mechanics as well as the peple back at the factories working. some teams have two windtunnels and these are manned 24 hours a day which have about 20 people a shift. there is also a large team of people who are justr dedicated to getting new sponsors

these figures dont take into account any work that is outsourced such as cleaning and catering

From 150 to 500 or more. The top teams such as mclaren, ferrari, BMW, Renault have around 300-600 team memebers working full time on the formula1 season. Smaller teams like Super Aguri, Spyker and Torro Rosso have around 150-200 members on the team and the rest somewhere in between.

"There is, though, a more significant point here. For fear of giving secrets to the opposition Williams is loath to reveal how many people he employs but, judging by the rows of cars filling the car park outside his office, it can be estimated in the several hundreds. Multiply that across the seven British-based teams, we are talking a huge quantity of very skilled, highly paid workers dependent on formula one. But if the competitive advantage slips away, those jobs may well be exported. It happened with Reynard, the British manufacturer which as recently as three years ago was supplying three-quarters of the cars for the American Indycar circuit and last month called in the receivers. "

How's that? Helpful?

about 300 working for a team, but if you ask in a pit stop there are 17 ( 3 for each wheel, 2 with the gas hose, 2 with the jacks and 1 with the lollypop ).
