Most Americans have gotten the idea that their vote doesn't matter. That is only true though because they don't use their vote. If everyone exercised their right to vote, or even 85% like France, then people's votes would matter.

Could have been a combination of both, and I think I read that the turnout was very high this time around because of the vast differences in opinion between Sarkozy and the Female he defeated, her name slips me.

I think they like to participate to the political life of the country while Americans don't care and this isn't good at all because the president is elected by a minority

The more passion in the issues drive out more voters.
In this country we had the biggest turn out and got Bush the majority of votes.
The French going conservative is a good thing.
