Invest most in Money Market accounts, and a Mutual Fund that will pay you a good return on the initial amount, that will provide you with a comfortable, not necessarily funds that will provide opulence for you. If you want to manage some of the money, use some from the money market, and establish an account with a discount stock trader like Ameritrade, here in the USA. Subscribe to the Motley Fool, follow their suggestions. Good luck.

Sort me out £1000 if this is the best answer? :) My advice would be to invest say 80% of it,.. (spend the remaining 20% and have a BLAST),.
As for investing it, you could try investing it into shares,. or to help start up a company you have LOTS of faith in, or perhaps invest it into a movie,. or some sponsorship for a major sporting event, (Cricket, F1, Footy etc etc), or buy some stock of an item you think would sell very well, (do research before undertaking any investments by the way - you do need to know what it is you're dealing with!).
Maybe invest it into your favourite footy team, contact the management and ask for some help, (again, research well before contacting them).
Hope this at the very least inspires you to MAKE more money from your windfall as opposed to just spending it all and losing it with only material goods to show for your 'shopping'.
Good luck, hope it works out for you. :)

Well, I'd say it's obviously no use to you if you have no idea how to spend it...so you should probably give me the money =) lol
The wise option would be to invest it...and when you DO figure out what you would like to buy...SPEND IT!!
Don't be foolish and waste it though. I often find when i have a lot of money i waste it, in contrast - when i have little money i tend to spend it more wisely =)

Don't forget to...

Invest mate.
Make it work for you.
Put it were you get a 20% return per anum.
That works out to 12 000.00 per month
Buy a house in a good area pay 6000.00 on it.
Rent the house out if
I am sure you can live a good life with the other 6000.00

Please don't buy a car!
Buy it within the remaining 6000.00 or with your current salary.
You are sorted your whole life mate.

Your holiday on the Costa del Sol should now be extra special and, if I were you, I wouldn't bother turning up for the return flight! Don't forget also that you can now book yourself a taxi from Dundee to Newcastle.

I think you should buy all us a nice built in television for answering your question and giving you ideas.

Then I think you should invest it by buying a nice house abroad, but be careful where you buy. Anyways, you can rent/let it out so you still have something coming in

Meanwhile, here in uk buy a nice cosy home, wadrobe and car.

And you can buy me a drink!
...........O.k either that or you let me be your best friend
Oh and don't forget something for charity too!

don't spend all at once.
