My boyfriend is pissed off at me because i refused to go to the gay pride parade. We've been fighting over everything for the past two weeks; stressed because of school and parents and he thought it would be a way to relieve stress and have fun. But i hate the gay pride parade, i feel so exploited. I'm proud to be gay i just don't see why we have to announce it. There is no heterosexual day parade. and some of the gay guys there just go over the top and prove the prejudice stereotypes there are out there about gay men. seriously..whats the point?

I have to agree with you.

I used to go every year but stopped. It just got very boring and stereotypical.

While I don't mind seeing hot guys dancing wearing almost nothing, I just don't feel that doing it on a float going down 5th Avenue is the proper place for it. As you said it just feeds the prejudice.

I didn't go to our parade either... I kind of agree with your statement, as a lot of things are over the top. But it's a celebration of who you are, so it's not that bad. I didn't go, cause I feel that you have to look really nice, clothes wise, and looks wise... because of course you are being totally judged. Even though I'm taken, I still know you get judged, and I just wasn't in the mood for any of it. I've gone to them in the past and had fun. Just go, drink a little, and enjoy the eye candy... that's all I ever do. Oh yeah HAVE FUN! It's meant to be over the top and crazy! :)

I went, got there late, couldnt find a parking space, had a perfect spot to view the parade, had to use restroom, lost spot, got dehydrated, fought with traffic, bought overpriced oversized rainbow flag that I had to break to get into car, had hard time getting into fav. eating spot ( Manatus), and when we were finally seated we felt like we were being watched by overzealous buspersons rags in hand to prepare table for next seating.
It was a nice celebration but
I'll stick with small town pride celebrations from now on.

Oh yeah, had to listen to pain in the *** 14 yr. old daughter complain about how all of the cute guys are Gay, and her 16 yr. old Gay b.f.f. constantly checking his lip gloss in my sunglasses.
Next year NO KIDS if I go.

I was only there for the first 15 minutes before I had to leave. The women on bikes, (formerly Dikes on Bikes) were the opening. I saw the rest on a replay on TV when I got home. It was a good feeling to be in an area where people were proud to be who they are not not be in fear of bigots hating them for living

Some people love parades and some people don't. You don't go for them and your boyfriend should respect that.
I do, however, hope that he went without you and had a good time for himself, because the parade does seem to be important to him.

If you think that some are over the top, why don't you participate to balance the equation? Staying away only hurts the cause. Participation in a positive manner helps us all.

Unfortunately I missed it this year due to some last minute business obligations.
