A is incorrect because most blacks did not leave the South. Blacks were even hired to sharecrop by their old masters.

D. Since slave ownership was illegal, growers worked out a deal where freemen worked the owner's crops in return for a small piece of land. The problem was that the owner's land was considerably larger than the freeman's, so the the freeman spent most of his time working the owner's land. Basically for free.
