i just got home from my fourth court date for my child support case. he has been unemployed and was ordered a job search. at our last court date he supposedly was going to start working. then he filed for vistation. he has not seen my daughter in 8 yrs...the nerve of him.so today we had court again both for visitation and for the support. his vistaton motion was thrown out since he did not show and i was told he will be in contempt for not showing for the support hearing. the judge said he knew of the court date since it was announced and agreed apon at out last court date. i am representated by the states attorney and asked a few ???s but am curious as to what else this means. will he be arrested and put in jail?? what really will happen??? im in il. thank you for any info

I'm sure they will put a warrant out for his arrest. Then he will have to see the judge again where he will have to agree to abide by new terms set by the judge or pay some support.

I wouldn't worry about the visitation. He will definitely not get visitation anytime soon. There is no judge that will approve that, especially now.

Child custody and support are civil issues. The courts have ordered him to pay this and do that etc which he is required to do.

If he fails to comply with the court orders...he can be held in "contempt" of court. This means the judge can put him in jail until such time as he pays a portion or all of his outstanding court ordered child support.

As for what can happen....he can be denied visitation (which is unlikely) but ordered "supervised visitation" which means he can't just pick your child up and go!

If there is a warrant for contempt...the local authorities will attempt to locate him and place him in jail where he will be given a new opportunity to see the judge in this case!

Child support and custody issues are often difficult...I wish you the best!
