Every time you first start your car and put it in drive; it does a self diagnostic safety test on the airbag system. It usually does this in between 10-19 MPH. When something fails the test, the airbag will be disabled for safety. I think you can go to "autozone" (or "Advance Auto Parts") and they can run a free computet diagnostic test on it, and get the codes. You can google the codes on the internet to find out whats causing the problem. You might even find detailed instructions on how to replace the faulty part(s). I fixed a lot of things on my car by using google search.

Get it in right away. The airbag wiring and sensors are tested each time you start the car. If anything does not pass the test it lights the airbag light. While it is doubtful the airbag would accidently deploy it is almost certain it would NOT deploy if you were in an accident. Take it to the dealer and while there ask if there are any service bulletins related to the Supplemental Restraint System for your make and model car. If there are you may get a free repair.

The airbag system has a problem. It has deactivated itself until the problem is fixed. It most likely is a defective sensor. The safety systems will be covered longer on warranty than your original warranty, so take it in and get it fixed, warranty or not. Good luck.
