No chance, there are always predictions like that but it never happens. But I do believe that it is always a possibility.

NASA is considering whether we should send a mission to place a radio transponder on Apophis so we will have a better estimate of its path.
Our last opportunity to alter its course will be April 13, 2029---that's Friday the 13th, by the way. We dare not try to change its course until we are absolutely sure that we won't accidentally push it the wrong way.
Present estimates show about one chance in 40,000 that will hit Earth on April 13, 2036. It is more likely to miss by a couple of thousand miles, but it will be visible to the naked eye. If it misses then, it will try again on April 13, 2037. If it hits Earth, it will be like a 400 megaton H-bomb. It could vaporize a large city or cause a tsunami worse than the one in Sumatra a couple of years ago. It's not the end of the world.

Astro-mathematical projections have a small asteroid buzzing by Earth in 2030...and having the same asteroid eventually colliding with Earth in 2037. Pray work is being done NOW to move the rock off course or have it slam into another planet....like....say....Juipter. I think scientific treatment on this matter is underway.
Estimations have the asteroid hitting well deep in the oceanic regions, but even then---this thing can produce a tsumani like wave.....much like the one that wiped out third world Asia four years ago....remember THAT one????
By time 2037 arrives, we should have the best preventive measures in place to address this problem.

sure its possible. A comet could hit the Earth right now, and we wouldn't even have a chance to wrap up. Thats because the space is huge (and growing) while the earth is a tiny life form all held by the awarness of those who inhabit it.

It's a possibility if it comes too close to the earth or not. There's apparent;ly a window of "We don't know" involved.
Party like it's 2038?

Actually, comets (and a lot of other space junk) hit the earth all the time. It's because they're not huge, or land anywhere super populated that you don't hear about them on the news.

NASA has no plans whatsoever to intercept or photograph the asteroid close up. It would be too much like science. NASA can't even get it up into orbit to service the multi-$billion Hubble telescope.

That is old information. Not a comet but asteroid 99942 Apophis. But refined tracking shows it will miss.
