Give a real smile because you are weird
Say hello or hi or something
Or, you are shy and or nervous, and open your mouth to say something but your throat just gets dry for some reason, and nothing comes out so you give a nervous smile, as you put your head down and walk by really fast?
I give a fake smile and continue what I'm doing unless its' a hot girl, then I watch her walk off, to see if she looks back, and if she does it's on.

Usually I nod and say hello or how are you. When my husband did it to me I raised one eyebrow and gave him one of those little devil half smiles, lol. I guess it worked.
