You have all of your fans cheering for you. Not against you like it would be if you were away.

Most teams that have home-field advantage actually have an advantage because of the fans. Fans play a large part in the game and can help get a club excited.

There is always an advantage playing at home because you know your own park better than anyone else, you have your fans, and your not living out of a suitcase. Only eight teams in all of MLB have a better won/lost record on the road than they do at home. There is an advantage overall but specific pitching match-ups is just as important.

Home field advantage actually means less in baseball than in other sports. In baseball, you play a three- or four-game series on the road, so you have more time to adjust to the other team's stadium and atmosphere. The strongest advantages will be in places like Minnesota's Metrodome, where it takes several games to get used to how fly balls blend in with the lightly-colored teflon roof.

There are a couple advantages to being the home team
1- you get last at bats
2- it's your field and you know all the nooks and crannies of the place and how balls bounce
3- you have your fans which doesn't always mean a lot, but in some situations it can

Not only do fans play a part (like "Whose you're daddy?" to Pedro) but the home team bats last. In the bottom of the ninth, they know what they need to do to not lose (or if the home team is winning, they don't even have to play the bottom of the ninth.
The away team, could score in the ninth, but will always have to then hold the home team in the bottom.

Ya...you get last ups so you know how much runs you have to get and after that the other team can't get anymore....its a BIG advantage.
Also if your a team like the Red Sox or another team with a big fan base you have all your fans behind you....but actually if your the Red Sox you get that almost anywhere since the fans travel to almost every game.

another very good reason to be home team is because you have the last at-bat. for example, you could be losing by 2 runs and score 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th inning and the away team does not get another chance to score, thus resulting in a victory.

they have the fans. also, say thta the score is 9-10 in the top of the ninth inning and the hometeam is loosing. then they play the bottom of hte ninth and have a chance to come back. if they were on the road, they would have just lost. also theyre in their own ball park, so like theyre used to everything, the grass, how far the outfield is etc.
