i want to get into a sport and i thought swimming would be nice i am still irregular and nervous that my couch will ask why i am not at practice because i cant go swimming i am 13 and if i join a team will they go over what to do if you have your period during the practice date

You can wear a tampon and swim. If you have never worn a tampon before, get a small size (junior, light flow, etc) and practice a few times. It's ok if it's hard to get it in correctly the first time -- just keep practicing.

i was on the swim team since i was about 6 and def. had to deal with what you're going through. i just got used to tampons pretty quickly (not to mention once u get used to them u realize they're a lot more comfortable than the diaper-like pads haha) try the ob brand without an applicator it may be easier for you to get used to at first or tampax pearl. i doubt the coach or anyone will go over that kind of stuff with you. it's usually the mom's job. hope that helps. :)

I had the same issue as you. I still don't use tampons, but I just put a thin pad on my swimsuit, and it worked very well to prevent any leaks. Remember, you're in the water, so it won't be as huge a deal.
If you feel the need to skip practice because of your period, just have your mom tell your coach you have stomach cramps, and he/she will get the point.
Hope this helps. As long as your periods don't hurt you, I think it's safe to go swimming with a pad at least the 2nd or 3rd day, when the flow is less.

Use a fresh tampon before your class starts. I was in a swim team and I used tampons. My friends used to sit out but I never had to take that measure and I never had any problems.

Just wear a tampon when you are swimming.
If you are sure that you don't want to use tampons (you don't even feel them after they are in), you can't go swimming. Just talk to your coach and tell him/her that you have your period. Chances are, they will understand.

im 13 and on a swim team too and I dont use tampons.My coach is a guy so i dont really like talking to him about that so we have two girls on our team that are coaches too and if you are going to miss then i tell them instead they might have that on your team too. dont worry about it if you really want to swim dont let that get in your way. hope i helped!!
