I have a 6 pound rabbit and I'm going to get a 4 pound rabbit. How big should their cage be? They will have about 4 hours of running freely around my house. The cage I currently have for my 6 pounded rabbit is 5 feet by 3 feet. Will this be large enough, or should I extend it to make room for the newcoming rabbit?

"As big as possible" is the answer. Remember they will be in there 20 hours a day. How large a room would you want to live in if you were going to be in it, with the door locked, 20 hours a day? Very big, I imagine!

Here are two different common wire cage sizes for a rabbit that size:

24" wide x 24" deep x 18" tall

32" wide x 24" deep x 18" tall

Be careful about getting your cages too big. If you get the cage too big and the rabbit can get to where you can't reach it, it will sometimes get mean and defiant. I prefer having a cage where you can reach to the back corners of the cage with little to no problem. A rabbit will normally lay around and do nothing for most of the day and it doesn't need a cage that is 5 foot by 3 foot unless you have an extra large breed like a Checkered Giant, French Lop, or Flemish Giant.

The other thing I'd suggest is that you keep the two rabbits separated to avoid possible fur chewing, ear bitting, mounting, tail biting, fighting, ect that might occur if you put them together.

If you look up some of the questions on here. There are a number of people who have asked why there rabbit got all mean on them after they turned it loose in a room or back yard. The same thing goes with too big of a cage. You give the rabbit too much space and it increases the likelihood of it getting mean.

I'm saying this from 25 years of experience.
