What's the very bright star (or whatever) is seen on the western sky at Kolkata around 7-7.30pm nowadays? It vanishes sometimes after 8/8.30pm. Can't say exact time bcoz the sky is often cloudy, and rains.

Sorry to disagree with your "not Venus" comment, but it is Venus. Venus is BY FAR the brightest thing in the western sky. I have looked every night and there is no other star anywhere near as bright as Venus in that part of the sky.

The very bright object you are seeing in the Western sky is the planet Venus. At this time it is the brightest object in the sky.
Happy sky viewing.

You didn't give an approximate declination of the object. If it isn't Venus, it is hard to say.
